Answer first
SwiftShader fixed the recorded WebGL failure on one Linux setup
The operator first reported a Missing features: WebGL
screen.
After Chrome was restarted with ANGLE, SwiftShader and the GPU
blocklist override, Chrome reported WebGL as enabled and the official
Poki game rendered. The same environment then completed multiple
Levels with normal keyboard input.
The original error screen was not retained by this guide, so it is labeled as an operator report. The successful after-state and the exact running flags were checked directly on August 2, 2026.
Reproduced after-state
The exact software-WebGL launch used in the test
On the tested Linux system, Chrome was launched with the following executable and flags. This path is system-specific; do not assume it exists on another Linux installation.
/opt/google/chrome/chrome \
--use-gl=angle \
--use-angle=swiftshader \
--ignore-gpu-blocklist - Close your own Chrome session completely before changing its launch command.
- Start Chrome with the three tested flags above, using the correct Chrome path for your system.
- Open the official Oozy’s Lab page on Poki and check whether the WebGL message is gone.
- Remove the flags if the result does not improve or Chrome behaves incorrectly.
Direct evidence
What the successful retest actually established
| Browser and system | WebGL and result | Tested change | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Chrome 150.0.7871.114 Linux (X11); Remote Linux desktop environment; physical GPU model not recorded; landscape | ANGLE SwiftShader; Chrome reported WebGL enabled and the Poki game canvas rendered Result: pass | Restart Chrome with --use-gl=angle --use-angle=swiftshader --ignore-gpu-blocklist |
Chrome identified the renderer as ANGLE using a SwiftShader device and reported WebGL enabled. The Poki canvas loaded, and current-build playtests proceeded beyond rendering into completed gameplay. Together, those checks establish a working software-rendered after-state for this one environment.
Direct environment evidence: S40. Official host and completed playtest chain: S1 and S13.
Do not overgeneralize
What this fix does not establish
- It was not tested on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPhone, iPad or Android.
- It does not diagnose blank pages, network failures, saved progress, sound or touch controls.
- It does not prove that every virtual machine should use software rendering.
- SwiftShader can be slower than a working hardware-accelerated WebGL path.
If the game loads but Poki shows a temporary break or preparing screen, that is not the same evidence as a WebGL failure. This guide has not verified a workaround for that separate state and does not recommend repeated reloads or browser-policy changes.

The check was read-only: process arguments and Chrome SystemInfo were inspected without restarting or changing the shared browser. This source supports one bounded recovery record, not a universal browser-support claim.

Poki's July 2026 release metadata is recorded separately from the developer page and forum launch dates. The moon wording is not treated as proof that every current level has the same completion condition. S13 directly completed the five tested World 1 Levels without collecting their moons.

The playtest used Chrome 150.0.7871.114 on Linux (X11), keyboard input and a visible game canvas. Local game-only screenshots were saved with capture metadata for the directly tested Worlds. The observed five-Level layouts apply only to Worlds 1 and 2 in the checked build; no fixed structure or moon rule is inferred for other Worlds.
